During the morning of Friday, May 26, the z/OS applications on the TAMMVS system halted normal operation. The condition was experienced from approximately 7:40 a.m. until about 8:20 a.m. The condition was identified to a write-to-operator buffer shortage. The problem was associated with a cable that had been attached as a test for the implementation of the new computer system. The cable was intended to be disconnected, but was left connected due to an oversight. The connection caused a number of non-scrollable messages to be written to console. The condition prevented the operating system from functioning normally when all the console buffers were in use. Normal operation was resumed following the elimination of the buffer shortage condition.

During the morning of May 24, customers contacted the Help Desk central concerning a problem connecting to the DNS entry of TAMMVS.tamu.edu. Further investigation determined that DNS entry was missing. The name of TAMMVS1.tamu.edu was present and customers were able to access the z/OS applications with that name. The Network group updated the NIM application and added the name of TAMMVS.tamu.edu back at about 8:20 a.m.
Further investigation determined the condition was related to a reconfiguration that had been performed on the machine room network recently. The reconfiguration involved changing the size of the machine room network. When that process is performed, the cname entries for hosts have to be manually re-added. The re-add process did not get performed due to an oversight.

At about 11:25 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, JES3 halted beginning the execution of any new batch jobs. Attempts to restart JES3 were not successful. The z/OS system was restarted at about 2:15 p.m. By 2:35 p.m., production was resumed for all applications and workloads (including batch) except FAMIS. It was determined that the FAMIS ADABAS had abended when the system was restarted. The condition was reported to the Database Team. The FAMIS ADABAS was operational at 2:47 p.m.
